Frequently Asked Questions

Just like any other mechanical equipment, generators also need to be maintained in order to prevent permanent damage and keep your unit in proper working order. Just like a car engine, generators require periodic filter and oil changes, so check your user’s manual for recommended maintenance intervals and procedures. It’s also a good idea to do a test run of the generator each month to prevent blockage in the carburetor and to avoid any surprises so that the unit is ready for when you need it. A factory trained Assurance Power Systems technician can provide your standby and portable generator with 24/7 emergency response or standard maintenance services that are unsurpassed in the industry. Call to find out more about our Preventative Maintenance Agreements Packages and routine maintenance services!

A generator technician can inspect your generator and determine whether repair services are needed. At home, there are several signs that you can look out for that will tell you when it is time to set up emergency generator repair services. If you start to see that your generator has frayed wires, this is an indication that your unit needs immediate professional attention. When your generator fails to start up, this is also a sure sign that it needs to be fixed.

A best practice is to have a Major Service performed at least once per year or after every 250 hours of use – whichever comes first.  For peace-of-mind, we recommend that commercial standby generators and many homeowners have semi-annual service that includes a Major Service and a Minor Inspection scheduled in 6-month intervals.

Those that use their generators more frequently may require shorter intervals between each service.
